BVB: No. 1 Royals fight off Valencia

Playing its first match as the No. 1-ranked team in CIF Division 2, San Marcos won “a knock-down, drag-out” four-set match against Valencia. The scores were 28-26, 30-28, 18-25, 25-19.

The win raised San Marcos’ record to 10-0.

Shane Hauschild pounded 19 kills and Baker Johnson put away 14 to lead the Royals. Middle Taylor Mann played big, making four solo blocks and adding six kills.

Setter Christian Widmer dished out 47 assists, maintaining an average of over 10 assists per game.

San Marcos coach Roger Kuntz said the Royals did the little things to win the match. He praised the play libero Sean Estabrooks.

The Royals open Channel League play at Buena on Thursday.
