SWM: Hanni, Castilleja win events as Gauchos fall to Stanford

The UCSB men’s swimming team fell to Stanford in a dual meet at Campus Pool on Friday. The final score of the shortened dual meet format was 108-91. This is the final home meet for the Gauchos as they prepare for Pac-12 Championships next month. The men finish with a 6-2 record in dual meets this season.

MEET RESULTS

To start the meet the relay team of Randy Aakhus, Andy Castilleja, Mickey Mowry, and Lukas Paulauskas took second place in the 200 yard medley relay. Andrew Barmann came in third place in the 1000 yard free in 9:35.06. Lucas Norman took second place in the 200 yard free in 1:41.37.

Ryan Hanni came in second place in the 50 yard free in 20.77 but went on to take first in the 100 yard free in 45.42. In the 200 yard individual medley, Aakhus came in third in 1:52.24. Aakhus also took third place in the 100 yard backstroke in 50.71. Mowry took a second place finish in the 100 yard fly in 50.35. Armen Darbinyan came in second place in the 500 yard free in 4:37.55.

The Gauchos finished strong at the end of the meet with a first place finish from Castilleja in the 100 yard breaststroke in 56.23. Finally, the 400 yard freestyle relay team of Wade Allen, Alex Campbell, Norman, and Hanni took first place in 3:01.78.

The Gauchos will be in action again for the Pac-12 diving championships on February 26th in Washington. The Pac-12 swimming championships will be held on March 5th, also in Washington.
