On a cold day in Boulder: Santa Barbara’s men’s team included Marcelo Mejia Perez, Joe DeVreese, Steve Harding, Rusty Snow and Todd Booth

Santa Barbara’s women’s team consisted of Monica DeVreese, Teri Malinowski, Desa Mandarino, Deanna Odell and Cindy Abrami.

 

Santa Barbara Running Company’s two masters teams both placed fourth at the USA Cross Country Championships in Boulder, Colorado on Saturday.

Also competing in Boulder was an over-70 masters team representing the Santa Barbara Athletic Association. John Brennand, Larry Brooks, Al Sladek and Lawrence Suhr raced on the 8k course.

The two masters teams from Santa Barbara Running Company competed in altitude on a flat, European-style course consisting of two-kilometer loops on grass. The men’s masters course was 8k and the women’s was 6k. The event, held on the Flatirons Golf Course, handed out $35,000 in prize money.

Rusty Snow came in second overall in the masters race with a time of 27 minutes and six seconds. Snow ran with the leaders from start-to-finish, while winner Gregory Mitchell separated from the pack in the second half of the race. Santa Barbara’s Marcelo Mejia Perez came in 19th and Todd Booth was 28th.

Cindy Abrami was Santa Barbara’s top women’s finisher in 13th place overall. Deanna Odell, Monica Devreese and Desa Mandarino placed in the top 25.
