GSoc: Bishop holds off Santa Clara, 2-1

Isabella Gregson and Liz Verduzco scored goals, and Bishop Diego held off a late surge by Santa Clara to post a 2-1 victory in a Frontier League girls soccer match on Thursday.

“They pressured us hard the last quarter (of the match), but we stayed strong,” Bishop coach Tessa Binkley said.

Gregson gave Bishop a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute, scoring off a corner kick from Judith Angulo. Verduzco finished a cross from Jill Giannini for a 2-0 lead in the 53rd minute

Santa Clara scored in the 75th minute.

“Despite the rain, we had good contact with the ball,” Binkley said. “It was a complete team effort today.”

Bishop improves to 10-5-3 overall and 4-2-2 in league.
