Carpinteria fought back from a 6-1 deficit but ran out of gas in the fourth period and lost to Malibu, 13-6, in a Tri-Valley League girls water polo match on Friday.
The Warriors pulled to within one, 6-5, in the last seconds of the third quarter. But a defensive lapse allowed Malibu to scored its seventh goal with 2 seconds left.
The Sharks rode the momentum to a 6-1 run in the final period
“Our team played with a lot of heart in the comeback,” Carpinteria coach Bryan Swarm said. “With a better start to the game, the outcome may have been different.”
Brenda Rodriguez, Allison Wagner and Sierra Garibay each scored two goals for the Warriors (4-8, 0-2 TVL).
