GSoc: Carpinteria beats city rival Cate, 2-1

Gabi Montes de Oca scored two goals, including the game winner, to lift Carpinteria over Cate in an intracity girls soccer rivalry match on Friday.

Montes de Oca gave the Warriors and 1-0 lead midway through the first half and scored the game winner with 10 minutes left in the game.

The Warriors missed on some quality chances.

“I think we had six shots that either hit the post or the crossbar today so I was a little relieved our efforts went rewarded,” said Carpinteria coach Charles Bryant. “It was definitely Gabi’s best game of the year, not because of the two goals but because she was a spark who provided a lot of energy on the left side.”

Charlotte Monke scored for Cate mid-way through the first half.

“Charlotte’s aggressive play today created several scoring opportunities and it was appropriate that she be rewarded with a goal today,” said Cate coach Lisa Holmes.

Bryant praised the midfield play of Kelsie Bryant. She was helped by Natalie Saito making good runs down the side. Monica Garcia did a great job coming up from her central defender position and joining the offense, coach Bryant noted.

“Overall, it was not our best game of the yea, but it feels good to get a win again,” he said.

Carpinteria is now 6-7-1 overall.
