GBK: Bishop’s comeback falls short against La Reina

Bishop Diego battled back from a nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter, but the Cardinals came up short in the end, falling to La Reina 48-43 in a Frontier League girls basketball game on Tuesday.

The Cardinals tied the score at 43 and almost stole the ball back. A foul put La Reina on the line for two free throws. The Regents missed both, but there was a tie-up on the rebound and the possession arrow pointed to La Reina.

Brooke Tarver made a tough shot to put La Reina up by two, 45-43, with 30 seconds to go. Bishop Diego turned the ball over and was forced to foul. The Regents, who made just 6 of 23 free throws, knocked down three to clinch the win and hand Bishop its first league loss

Tarver scored 22 points to lead all scorers.

“We did not shoot well from the outside and defensive rebounding hurt us,” Bishop Diego coach Jeff Burich said.

Hannah Rogers scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Bishop Diego (11-6, 4-1). Jordyn Lilly and Colleen Duley each scored 11 points.
