Maya Grant scored five goals and Sierra Garibay and Brenda Rodriguez added four goals apiece, leading Carpinteria to a 17-4 rout of Santa Maria in a non-league girls water polo match on Tuesday.
The Warriors led only 1-0 after the first period but exploded for seven goals in the second.
“After a very slow start, we got it together in the second quarter with a 7-2 run and never looked back,” Carpinteria coach Bryan Swarm said. “Our defense was steady all day and overall this was our first well-rounded game.
Carpinteria is 2-5 on the season.
