GSoc: Royals fight off fatigue, battle to 2-2 draw

Playing its third game in four days, the San Marcos girls soccer team overcame a sluggish first half and fought back to earn a 2-2 tie at Newbury Park on Friday.

“We looked more alive,” said San Marcos coach Macie Berlin of the team’s play in the second half. Libby Brymer scored the game-tying goal in the 71st minute after a corner kick by Kaitlyn Saperstein.

In the first half, the Royals fell behind 1-0 in the 15th minute. They scored the equalizer five minutes later when Chloe Hamer finished a crossing ball from Olivia Jones.

Newbury Park reclaimed the lead on a breakaway in the 24th minute.

“We struggled in the first half on defense, but we came back much strong in the second half,” said Berlin.

The Royals are 0-1-2.
