GSoc: Royals explode for 6 goals, notch first win

irls took their first win of the season tonight hosting Camarillo for our 6th season game.

San Marcos’ offense exploded and the Royals broke into the win column with a 6-2 girls soccer win over Camarillo on Wednesday.

Libby Brymer scored two goals and goalkeeper Hannah Harrah recorded an assist for the Royals (1-2-3).

Camarillo jumped on the Royals in the second minute for a 1-0 lead. But San Marcos answered when Brymer scored off a long throw-in from Melanie Miller.

Miller put the Royals ahead when she headed in a corner kick from Kaitlyn Saperstein.

Brymer hit the post in 35th minute, but Emma Jones broke in and scored for a 3-1 lead. Camarillo got a goal back to make it 3-2 at halftime.

“I told the girls at halftime to play as if we were down and chase after the goals, and they did just that,” San Marcos coach Macie Berlin said.

Brymer scored her second goal in the 58th minute, weaving in and out of the midfield and beating the goalkeeper with a left-footed shot. Olivia Jones scored off a Kaitlyn Saperstein assist in the 63rd minute to increase the lead to 5-2.

Cara Christian ran down a perfectly placed ball by Harrah and scored in the 75th minute for her first varsity career goal.

The Royals will host their Winter Classic on Friday and Saturday. They open against Carpinteria at 2 p.m.
