BSoc: Shorthanded DP pulls out a 3-1 victory

Dos Pueblos went into its holiday break on a winning note, beating Hueneme 3-1 in a non-league boys soccer match on Tuesday.

The Chargers fell behind early in the match when Hueneme got a touch on a 30-yard free kick and stuck it in the goal.

Dos Pueblos scored the equalizer on a counterattack, with Julio Rubio sending in a cross that sweeper Tucker Snider, making a box-to-box run, finished with a header.

Tim Heiduk put the Chargers ahead when he took a feed from Jessie Jimenez and beat the goalkeeper.

The game got physical and DP lost a player to a red card after an altercation.

“Playing the next 50-plus minutes proved to be a difficult task against the well-balanced and well-coached Hueneme team,” DP coach Matt York said.

The shorthanded Chargers managed to score a third goal. Jimenez put the ball away after a quick restart by Snider near midfield.

Hueneme created lots of scoring chances in the second half, but DP goalkeeper Alex Mathews was up to the task.

“He was our game MVP,” York said. “He came up with huge saves time and time again to hold onto the lead. Alex played phenomenally for us. This was the tenacity and effort we have been waiting to see from him all year.”

Dos Pueblos (7-1-1 and ranked 10th in CIF Division 1) will return to the field on Dec. 27-28 at the Hart Soccer Challenge in Valencia.
