BSoc: Rubio shines in a pair of DP victories

Dos Pueblos scored an impressive boys soccer win over L.A. City power and undefeated Sylmar and followed that up with a 5-1 win over Arleta on Friday at the Hart Showcase Tournament in Valencia.

Tim Heiduk scored off a give-and-go with Julio Rubio in the second half and DP’s defense made the goal stand up for a 1-0 win over Sylmar.

DP coach Matt York cited the play of defender Tucker Snider in the win.

Snider came out of the back and gave the Chargers a 1-0 lead in the game against Arleta.

Rubio delivered a spot-on cross to sophomore Manny Nwosu, who struck it cleanly to beat the goalkeeper for a 2-0 lead.

Rubio set up the third goal on a corner kick. Heiduk rose up and headed the ball into the back of the net for a 3-0 advantage.

And Rubio wasn’t done. He combined with Heiduk again for a fourth goal.

Arleta got on the board before the Chargers scored once more. Freshman Brian Gutierrez took a pass from Brian Palma and buried a shot for a 5-1 lead.

York gave Rubio game MVP honors and he also recognized the play of senior defenseman John Sigurdson.

DP improves to 9-1-1 on the season.
