WSoc: Harris nets 2 goals to spark 4-0 win

Brandie Harris scored two goals on Friday afternoon and SBCC erupted for four second-half scores in a 4-0 women’s soccer triumph at Moorpark.

Harris, who’s scored in six straight games, boosted her season totals to 24 goals and two assists for 50 points. She’s the No. 1 scorer in Southern Cal and No. 5 in the state.

The sophomore forward from Dos Pueblos High needs four goals in the last three games to break the school record for goals in a season.

The Vaqueros (10-4-2, 6-1-2) completed their seven-game road trip with a 6-1 record and remained two points behind L.A. Pierce (7-0-1) in the battle for the WSC North title.

Harris opened the scoring in the 57th minute on an assist by Jackie Holmer. Sonja Gustavsson got her first goal of the year in the 67th minute off a corner kick from Chiara Kehl. Harris made it 3-0 in the 79th minute after a nice through ball from Heather Rivera.

Emilie Netteberg notched the fourth goal in the 85th minute after a pass from the right side by Athena Nava. Midfielder Shirley Benitez returned from an injury and provided a steady influence in the midfield.

The Vaqueros will play their final three regular-season games at home, starting Tuesday against Cuesta at 7 p.m.
