Third-ranked UCLA outscored UCSB 4-1 in the second period and went on to defeat the sixth-ranked Gauchos 10-7 in the MPSF men’s water polo match on Sunday at UCLA.
UCLA is 26-2 overall and 6-1 in the MPSF, moving it into a three-way tie for first place with Pacific and Stanford. UCSB fell to 16-9 and 3-5 in league play.
Matt Gronow, Nicholas Jordan and Eric Van de Mortel each scored two goals to lead the Gauchos. Junior Paul Reynolds led the Bruins with three goals.
UCLA goalie Garrett Danner had his best game as a Bruin, stopping a career-best 14 shots. Chris Whitelegge was credited with eight stops in the cage for UCSB.
