GTen: Dons roll in CIF first-round match

Santa Barbara High’s girls tennis team was primed and ready for its CIF playoff opener. That was bad news for visiting Edison.

The Dons swept the nine doubles sets and rolled to a 13-3 victory in a Division 1 first round match on Wednesday.

“Our girls were ready to play and were focused throughout the match,” Dons coach Greg Tebbe said. “They are eager to see how far they can advance in the playoffs and are looking forward to our next match on Friday.”

Santa Barbara will be the road team in the second round against either Westlake and Palos Verdes.

Karina Thornton and Lexy Gulden played at No. 1 doubles and went 3-0. Megan Grant-Lisa Santry won their three sets and No. 2 doubles.

In singles, Mattea Kilstofte and Madison Hale each won their first two sets before being subbed out for the third set.
