GTen: Carpinteria rolls into CIF quarterfinals

The doubles teams led the way for the Carpinteria girls tennis team in its 17-1 win over Vista Del Lago of Moreno Valley in the second round of the CIF Division 5 girls tennis playoffs on Friday.

No. 1 doubles team of Merissa Souza and Gabi Montes De Oca pulled out a tough 7-5 victory in its last set to finish the day undefeated. The No. 3 team of Emily Saito/Odessa Stork also swept and played well, said coach Charles Bryant.

In singles, No. 1 Kelsie Bryant went 3-0 and did not lose a game while No. 2 Kassandra Ni also swept and only dropped two games. Makenna Pike played awesome at No.3 in going 2-0
and was a force from the baseline and at the net. “She played with a lot of heart today,” said Bryant.

The Warriors (20-2) hit the long road again on Monday, traveling to Beaumont for a quarterfinal match.
