CIF XC: Royals headed to State for first time

For the first time in school history, San Marcos’ boys cross country team has qualified for the CIF State Meet.

The Royals did it on Saturday at the Southern Section’s Finals at Mt. SAC with a 5th-place finish in the Division 3 competition.

Senior Eric Salas led the Royals with a time of 15 minutes and 11 seconds for a 9th-place individual result. Ryan Sorensen was next in 15th with a time of 15:23.

COMPLETE RESULTS

Nic Swider and Joe Logan came across with equal 15:54s in 37th and 38th. Completing San Marcos’ score was senior Ben Ghitterman with a personal best 16:40.

The Royals will travel to Fresno next Saturday for the State Meet.

San Marcos’ girls team was also at the Southern Section Finals. The Royals came in 11th as a group, led by Adilene Aldapa. The San Marcos junior posted a time of 18:30 to earn 13th overall individually.

Seniors Jewel Fisher and Juliana Logan added a 44th and 56th finish, respectively.
