CIF XC: Royals advance both teams to Finals

San Marcos will have a full contingent at next week’s CIF-ss Cross Country Finals after both its boys and girls teams advanced at today’s Prelims at Mt. SAC.

Assistant coach Tracy Jenkins noted that as far as they know, it’s the first time in school history that both teams have qualified in the same year.

With the top five teams moving on, the boys team finished 4th in the Division 3 races and the girls team edged Bolsa Grande for fifth place by just one point.

Adilene Aldapa was the Royals’ top individual finisher. Aldapa’s course-best 18:13 earned her 3rd place in her heat. Eric Salas and Ryan Sorensen collected top-10 results for the boys side. Salas’ fifth-place came in 15:27 and Sorensen was sixth in 15:35. Aldapa, Salas, Sorensen, Juliana Logan, Jewel Fisher, Nic Swider and Joe Logan all posted course-bests.

“The athletes did everything in their power to advance – and they did it,” commended Jenkins.
