Dos Pueblos bounced back from a heartbreaking semifinal loss in sudden death overtime and beat Huntington Beach, 9-7, to take third place at the Pal Memorial water polo tournament in Orange County on Saturday.
Blake Parrish and Quinn Peacock each scored three goals, Jake Griffin added two and Scott Mahan chipped in one goal in the match. Goalie Emil Huebner had five blocks and two steals.
“We started out with some incredible defense in the game, holding Huntington to just two goals in the first half and keeping a lead the entire game,” DP coach Chris Parrish said. “Quinn Peacock hit the last shot with 30 seconds to go to give us the two-point margin and secure the game.
In the semifinals, Servite edged the Chargers, 10-9. Parrish and Graham Young scored three goals and Taylor Gustason chipped in two goals. Mahan had five steals.
DP beat ML King, 13-8, in the quarterfinals. Kyle Krutenat started in goal in place of Huebner, who was taking the SAT.
“Kyle did a fantastic job, recording seven saves in the game,” said coach Parrish.
Blake Parrish put in five goals and Peacock tallied 4 to lead the scoring for the Chargers.
DP completes Channel League play on Tuesday against second-place Ventura.
