WSoc: Harris, Kehl spark 5-1 Vaquero victory at Hancock

Brandie Harris scored two goals and Chiara Kehl added two goals and an assist on Tuesday as SBCC downed Hancock 5-1 in a WSC North women’s soccer match at Santa Maria.

The Vaqueros (8-3-2, 4-0-2) improved to 4-0 on their seven-game road trip. Hancock fell to 2-8-2 and 0-5.

It was the 200th win at SBCC for Coach John Sisterson, who’s in his ninth year as women’s coach and seventh year with the men. His combined record is 200-74-52, including 109-38-33 with the women.

The Vaqueros took a quick 2-0 lead as Harris scored in the seventh minute and Kehl found the net in the 12th minute on an assist from Heather Rivera. After Hancock converted a free kick in the 22nd minute, Kehl struck again on an assist by Rivera for a 3-1 halftime lead.

Tavara Zachert-Johnson got her first goal in the 50th minute and Harris drilled in a header in the 60th minute on a nice cross from Kehl. Harris has seven goals in the last three games and ranks No. 2 in Southern Cal with 16 goals.

Kehl, a freshman forward from Switzerland, was making her first start of the season

“She looked dangerous every time she touched the ball,” said Sisterson

SBCC opens the second round of conference on Friday with a 4 p.m. game at Oxnard.
