Montes shows off his speed in 38-7 Carpinteria win

Defensive tackle Joel Montes picked off a St. Monica pass and rambled 77 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter, igniting Carpinteria to a 38-7 non-league football win at St. Bernard’s High in Playa del Rey on Friday night.

The Warriors finished their pre-league schedule with a 6-0 record.

Carpinteria built a 38-0 lead before St. Monica scored with three minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Connor Kelsey’s pressure on the quarterback forced the interception by Montes, who used his speed to score the touchdown and give the Warriors a 17-0 lead. He is a member of Carpinteria’s 4×100 relay team.

“What a great thing for an tackle to out-sprint everyone,” said Carpinteria coach Ben Hallock..

Quarterback Ian Craddock ran for a touchdown and hit Bryson Frazier for a 52-yard score. He also kicked a field goal to open the scoring

Jonathan Esqueda also ran for a touchdown.

Carpinteria opens Tri-Valley League next Saturday against Bishop Diego at SBCC.
