IN-GAME UPDATES: Dos Pueblos at Santa Barbara High Football

PRE-GAME INTRO: Dos Pueblos (2-4) travels to Santa Barbara High (3-3) in the Channel League opener for both teams. The two schools shared the league championship last year as the Dons were able to overcome the Chargers 24-17 in the regular season finale.

The Dons offense has scored 41 or more points in Santa Barbara’s three wins and comes into the game having rushed for 345 yards last week against Pacifica. Dos Pueblos has scored 21 or more points in four-straight games after starting the season 0-2.

Tonight’s rematch at Peabody Stadium will be re-broadcast on TV by Cox 8 on Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

FOURTH QUARTER

GAME OVER – Dos Pueblos wins the Channel League opener 28-12. Stay tuned for a written post-game recap with interviews with players and coaches.

2:34 – A low squib kick on the kick-off is taken by Dos Pueblos as they take the ball at SB’s 40-yard line. Two running plays so far has the clock winding down.

3:46 – Peus moves Santa Barbara down the field quickly as the Dons score another touchdown on a 35-yard throw to Jonah Iwanaga. The drive included another long pass to Raymond Solis. The 2-point conversion attempt is no good. Dos Pueblos 28, Santa Barbara 12

5:02 – Santa Barbara recovers an onside kick!!

5:09 – Santa Barbara avoids the shutout on a 1-yard scoring run. Point after fails. Dos Pueblos 28, Santa Barbara 6

6:20 – A complete pass to Solis on 4th down, followed by complete passes to Cunningham and Guzman has Santa Barbara at the doorstep of its first touchdown. The Dons were last shut out on November 5, 2010 against Buena.

7:16 – Brent Peus has led a Santa Barbara drive into DP territory but faces a 4th-and-10 now to keep it alive. Santa Barbara has moved it 44 yards so far to the DP 36.

10:55 – With Dos Pueblos on the verge of adding to its lead, the Chargers cough up a fumble inside the 10-yard line for their first turnover of the game.

THIRD QUARTER

End of Quarter: No scoring in the period as each team fails on two possessions. Dos Pueblos moves to the final quarter in the red zone.

SECOND QUARTER

HALFTIME – Dos Pueblos takes a commanding 28-0 lead into the halftime break at Peabody Stadium. The Chargers capitalized on three Santa Barbara turnovers.

0:32 – Connor Kanen makes a leaping grab over the middle on a pass from Burnes for an 8-yard TD. The Chargers ate up a bunch of clock on the final possession of the first half, holding onto the ball for more than six minutes. Dos Pueblos 28, Santa Barbara 0

6:17 – Dos Pueblos’ David Blevins recovers a Santa Barbara fumble as the Dons were driving into Dos Pueblos territory. The Chargers, up 21-0, have held the Dons to under 100 total yards so far.

8:07 – A 42-yard field goal attempt by DP’s Daniel Buratto comes up just short as the Chargers are stopped for the first time. The Dons take over at their own 20

12:00 – Dos Pueblos leads 21-0 and holds possession on Santa Barbara’s 42. A seven-yard pass from Barrett Burnes to Matt Sessler gives DP a first down on the first play of the quarter.

FIRST QUARTER

2:55 – Santa Barbara has come back from 28 points down already this season, and just put in Eli Hale at quarterback for a series, but its offense again stalls and punts to Dos Pueblos, which will start its next possession on its own 29-yard line.

4:24 – The Dons turn the ball over again as Dos Pueblos’ Angel Davison intercepts and returns the ball to Santa Barbara’s two yard line. Dos Pueblos takes a 21-0 lead on the next play. DP’s defense has allowed just one first down for the Santa Barbara offense, which has not yet reached Charger territory. Dos Pueblos 21, Santa Barbara 0

6:31 – Dos Pueblos quickly doubles up on its lead thanks to Welch. The senior two-way player has made a huge impact so far, scoring both touchdowns and intercepting a pass on defense that set up his second TD. Dos Pueblos 14, Santa Barbara 0

8:03 – Santa Barbara goes three-and-out to start the game. Dos Pueblos starts out on its own 45-yard line. On its first offensive snap, Tyler Welch takes a sweep 37 yards into the Dons’ red zone. Six plays later, Welch gives DP the first lead of the game on a 1-yard plunge. Dos Pueblos 7, Santa Barbara 0

12:00 – The Chargers will be kicking off to Santa Barbara, who are defending the south end zone to start the game.
