GTen: Stark’s improved play impresses coach Bryant

Odessa Stark’s aggressiveness sparked her to three set wins, helping Division 5 top-ranked Carpinteria defeat Villanova 17-1 in a Frontier League girls tennis match on Tuesday.

Stark, Kelsie Bryant and Kassandri Ni all went 3-0 in singles. But it was the play of Stark that had coach Charles Bryant excited.

“I was impressed with Odessa’s game today,” coach Bryant said. “She made a conscious effort to get to the net as much as possible. Her volleys and overheads are getting stronger and she is starting to become more of a ‘complete’ player.”

Coach Bryant mixed up his doubles teams and they lost only one set.

Lesly Zapata and Natalie Saito played together for the first time and went 3-0. Merissa Souza-Gabi Montes De Oca also played together for the first time and went 2-0. Merissa then paired with Allison Wagner to defeated the Wildcats’ No. 1 team.
