GTen: Dons work to get past San Marcos

Unbeaten Santa Barbara got a good test from Channel League rival San Marcos before taking on top-ranked Peninsula on Wednesday.

The Dons scored a 14-4 girls tennis win over the Royals on Tuesday to improve to 7-0 and 4-0 in league play.

Mattea Kilstofte went 3-0 in singles and didn’t lose a game. In doubles, the teams of Megan Grant-Madison Hale and Lisa Santry-Kelli Martindale also won three sets.

Renee Handley won two singles sets for San Marcos.

Santa Barbara coach Greg Tebbe was impressed at how San Marcos played his team tough.

“This is the start of an important stretch for us in our season, and I was pleased with the way our team competed and stayed focused throughout the match,” he said. “San Marcos played well, and this match helps to prepare us for tomorrow when travel to play Peninsula.”
