Carpinteria got punished for a slow start and suffered a 10-7 loss at Nordhoff in a Tri-Valley League boys water polo match on Wednesday.
“Unfortunately, we picked the wrong day for a slow start, and our horrible shooting percentage did not help matters,” said Carpinteria coach Bryan Swarm.
The Warriors fell behind 3-1 at the end of the first period and trailed 4-1 at halftime. They scored four goals in the third period, but Nordhoff answered with four goals of its own.
Thomas Fly led Carpinteria with three goals and Chris Fedderson added two.
“We have to hand it to Nordhoff, they were ready to play, and they outplayed us in all facets of the game,” Swarm said. “On the positive side, this should be a big wake-up call for our young team, and we will learn from this and get better.”
Carpinteria is 5-10 overall and 0-2 in league.
