Goalie Jack Palmer made a huge save down the stretch to help San Marcos defeat Santana, 10-9, for the championship of the San Diego Open boys water polo tournament on Saturday.
Shane Hauschild scored four goals and six other Royals added goals in the title game. Ben Hauschild scored a crucial goal to put San Marcos up by two. Santana cut the lead to one and then earned a 6-on-5 power play. The San Diego-area school got off a good job, but Palmer made a brilliant save to secure the victory.
