Playing in its home pool, a fired-up Santa Barbara High was going toe-to-toe with third-ranked Dos Pueblos in a Channel League boys water polo match.
The Dons were ahead 4-3 in the second quarter before the Chargers took control. Sparked by three goals from freshman Taylor Gustason, they went on a 5-0 run at the end of the second period and the beginning of the third and came away with a 12-6 victory on Thursday.
Gustason tied the score at 4-4 and Blake Parrish put the Chargers ahead 5-4. Gustason added two more goals during the run.
The Chargers (11-6, 5-0) were solid on the power play. They scored on four of six chances with the man advantage and held Santa Barbara to one goal when shorthanded.
Gustason led DP with five goals.
Sawyer Rhodes scored two goals and had two assists for Santa Barbara (7-10, 2-3). Tyler Heffernan had a goal and drew five ejections.
