Malibu overpowered Carpinteria 20-7 in a Frontier League boys water polo opener on Friday.
Zack Clayton scored three goals and Thomas Fly added two, but the Warriors fell behind 5-1 after the first period and 11-4 at halftime.
“Although this was a league match, Malibu is a very large team in numbers and stature,” Carpinteria coach Bryan Swarm said. “We played with heart and effort to the end, but we are really not in the same ‘league’ this year.”
The Warriors are 5-9 on the season.
