Carpinteria jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first period and held on to beat Nordhoff, 12-11, in a Tri-Valley League boys water polo match on Friday.
The Rangers pulled to within one goal in the fourth quarter. A couple of big saves by goalie Zeke Hart kept Carpinteria in the lead.
“With a young team, we were up and down today, just like our season,” Carpinteria coach Bryan Swarm said. “But we are learning how to win close games and that experience will bold well for our future. I was very happy with our defense, the quick start, and our balanced scoring. We are getting close to putting a full game together.”
Thomas Fly scored four goals and Noah Reed added three goals to lead Carpinteria. Hart made 14 saves.
