Freshman Adam Gross scored in the second minute of sudden death overtime to lift Santa Barbara High’s boys water polo team to a thrilling 11-10 win over Ventura on Thursday.
Gross played a solid game, scoring three goals and producing a team-high three assists for the Dons (6-8, 1-1)
Santa Barbara took a 9-5 lead on Tyler Heffernan’s goal with 3:06 left in the game. But Ventura equalized, scoring on its next 4 possessions to tie the game at 9.
Ventura’s Matt Jarvis scored his fifth goal of the game with 5 seconds to go in the first over time period.
Heffernan tied the score a minute in to the second over time. Heffernan finished with team-high 4 goals, 4 steals, and 7 ejections drawn. Skyler Matthews scored 3 goals and drew 4 ejections. Sam Johnson finished with 9 saves and an assist.
