Carpinteria fought hard but came up short against Villanova, 10-8, in a Tri-Valley League boys water polo match on Wednesday.
“Our players fought to the end, but in the end Villanova just had to much firepower for us today,” said Carpinteria coach Bryan Swarm.
The score was tied 7-7 going into the fourth period. Villanova took a two-goal lead and Carpinteria got one back with 2:30 left. But the Wildcats scored again with 35 seconds left to secure the win.
“We just ran out of gas,” said Swarm.
Thomas Fly scored three goals and Noah Reed added two for the Warriors (7-14, 2-6 TVL). Jake Wright scored five goals for Villanova.
Carpinteria plays host to Cate on Friday.
