Oxnard scored early and late on Tuesday night to hand SBCC its first WSC men’s soccer loss by a 2-1 score.
The Vaqueros (2-3, 2-1) fell to 1-2 at home this season. Oxnard improves to 3-4 and 2-1.
Fernando Puga broke the tie in the 80th minute on a 20-yard shot that beat goalie Juan Rodriguez in the lower left side.
“It was an entertaining game,” said coach John Sisterson. “Unfortunately, we made two errors and let a goal in late. Sometimes, you can’t come back from that.
“At the time of that goal, I thought we were putting a lot of pressure on them. We were creating chances and it could have gone either way. It’s early days in the conference and Oxnard has caught up with us.
“It’s where you end up, it’s not where you start.”
