GTen: Cuttler-Casey come up huge for Dons

The No. 3 doubles team of Maddie Cuttler and Claire Casey won three close sets, helping the Santa Barbara High girls tennis team to a 14-4 home win over Arroyo Grande on Wednesday.

“When your number three team is able to sweep all of their matches against quality opponents, then that just gives the rest of the team a big lift,” Dons coach Greg Tebbe said. “They were definitely one of the keys to our victory today. I was proud of the way they fought for every point and never gave up.”

Cuttler-Casey won their sets by scores of 7-6, 7-6, 6-4.

Santa Barbara swept the nine doubles set and won five of six singles points.

“Our strength is in our balance and depth in both singles and doubles. There are no easy points in our lineup and that was highlighted today against a very good team from Arroyo Grande. who are the defending CIF champions in division three,” said Tebbe.

Next up for Santa Barbara (2-0) is its first Channel League match against rival Dos Pueblos on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
