San Marcos made Sarah Ashton a winner in her San Marcos coaching debut, as the Royals edged Santa Ynez 271-272 in a girls golf season opener on Tuesday.
Melissa Jewkes shot 48 to lead the Royals. Laura Fuller of Santa Ynez was the medalist with a 47.
“I am so pleased with the improvement and dedication of our team in the past few weeks,” Ashton said. “This was an excellent way to start the season.”
