Santa Barbara hung close with Laguna Beach for three periods before falling 14-6 in a tuneup Thursday before this weekend’s Santa Barbara Invitational water polo tournament.
The Dons were down 7-5 with a minute to go in the third period, but Laguna Beach went on a 7-1 run in the final eight minutes.
Tyler Heffernan scored three goals and drew three ejections for the Dons. Sawyer Rhodes scored a gaol and picked off a team-high four steals.
Santa Barbara opens tournament play Friday against Harvard Westlake, the No. 2-ranked team in CIF Division 1.
