Owls fare well at Hawaiian tournament

Laguna Blanca’s girls volleyball team opened up its season in Hawaii competing in the 4th Annual King Kamehameha Girls Volleyball Tournament in Pukalani, Hawaii.

The Owls finished fifth in the Ikaika Division, which was championed by Texas’ Granbury High School.

“The team played really well all week,” reported Laguna Blanca head coach Jim Alzina. “We only had seven girls at the tourney, but those seven came together and played with a lot of heart.”

Playing for the Owls were Grace Woolf, Clara Madsen, Olivia Pickett, Chloe Richman, Hannah White, Phoebe Madsen and Dani Abrams. Because of the limited personnel, Alzina was pleased to see Richman and Phoebe Madsen perform well playing out of their normal position.

The Owls won their final match of the tournament 25-13, 25-16 over the host school. Other tournament highlights included a 30-0 scoring run with Pickett and Phoebe Madsen at the service line. In the final victory, Madsen tallied 15 kills and Clara Madsen collecting 23 assists.
