MAFF’s Meyer enters karate hall of fame

Martial Arts Family Fitness (MAFF), a family-owned and operated school dedicated to improving lives through martial arts, announced today that Master Melodee Meyer was recently inducted into the World Karate Union Hall of Fame. The announcement comes after a month that saw Ms. Meyer inducted into the Hall Fame as well promote to fifth degree black belt.

“When we were notified that Master Melodee had been nominated we were thrilled, but when we found out she was voted in we were ecstatic!” said Grandmaster Dave Wheaton, founder and owner of Martial Arts Family Fitness. “Melodee has been my student for 16 years, and I cannot be more proud of her commitment to the martial arts. This accolade is a testament to her commitment. Our entire martial arts family is very proud of her.”

“I was shocked when I received notification of my nomination,” added Ms. Meyer. “To be recognized for doing something that you enjoy is very, very humbling. This award, to me, is a reflection of what we do at Martial Arts Family Fitness. It is a reflection of our students, instructors, and especially on Grandmaster Wheaton. They are my inspiration. I am honored and grateful to them and to everyone that voted for me.”

Established in 1996, the World Karate Union Hall Of Fame honors martial artists for their unselfish contributions to the martial arts. Nominees are selected through ballots which are sent throughout the United States, Europe, South America, Canada, the West Indies and Australia. The WKU Hall of Fame is a prestigious event attended by many notable VIPs from the martial arts industry. The majority of inductees are recommended directly by WKU Board Members and past inductees. The criteria are based on extraordinary excellence in the martial arts and tireless devotion to the community.

“At our last black belt test on June 1st, Master Melodee and five of our students promoted to fifth dan,” added Grandmaster Wheaton. “Melodee is an inspiration to martial artists. She is an innovator when it comes to health and fitness. It is because of Master Melodee’s tireless work and leadership that our school has grown, and continues to grow. Under her leadership our school has raised close to a quarter of a million dollars for various non-profits, and we encourage our students to be active in our community. This is a well-deserved award.”
