Braden, a 21-year-old Dos Pueblos graduate currently attending University of Colorado at Boulder, bested a field that included second-place finisher Steven Hunt.

Jessica Broderick, in 3rd overall, won the women’s race.

COMPLETE RESULTS

The race, which combines a 1-mile ocean swim with a 4-mile run on the sand, started at 3 p.m. on East Beach in front of the Cabrillo Bath House. While low tide made the run a faster clip, afternoon winds picked up and caused difficult conditions for the ocean swim.

Last year’s champion Ed Smith placed sixth.

Braden also competed in this event in 2009, finishing 5th in his Semana Nautica Biathlon debut.

Sunday’s race also acted as USA Triathlon’s Southwest Regional Aquathlon Championship.
