Three-hitter secures Foresters sweep

Shane Rowland drove home four runs and four Foresters pitchers combined to limit San Diego to three hits in Sunday’s 7-1 victory for the Santa Barbara Foresters.

Santa Barbara is 2-0 to start its season. Rowland is 3-for-6 with five RBI in the two wins. On Sunday, he batted cleanup and did his job by plating his four runs on a pair of hits, including one of three Forester doubles.

Drew Van Orden picked up the victory on the mound for throwing five innings as the starter. Van Orden struck out eight and allowed one earned run in the top of the third inning.

Sean McIntyre, Brian Murphy and Brendon Shoemake completed the three-hitter. Murphy and Shoemake held the Waves hitless over the final 2 2/3 innings.

The Waves took a 1-0 lead but Santa Barbara immediately answered with four runs in the bottom half. San Diego’s Andres Ortiz knocked in Zach Taylor with a single.

The Foresters came from behind to win both of their weekend games. After a day off on Monday, Santa Barbara hosts the North County Indians.
