Dos Pueblos volleyball standout Jackson Wopat has signed a national letter of intent with UC San Diego, Tritons coach Kevin Ring announced on Friday.
Wopat, a 6-5 middle for the Chargers, earned All-CIF, All-Channel League and Presidio Sports All-City honors this season. He averaged over 10 kills per match in leading DP to the CIF Division 2 quarterfinals.
Wopat also captained his Santa Barbara Volleyball Club 18-Blue side this past season.
“Jackson has all of the tools to be a great middle blocker in the (Mountain Pacific Sports Federation),” said Ring. “As a blocker, he is quick laterally as well as quick off the ground. His block press move is as good as any high school senior out there. Our middle blocker position has just become a whole lot more competitive.”
He is the third child of Ron and Kathy Wopat to earn a volleyball scholarship. Daughters Carly and Sam received scholarships to Stanford.
