Cate’s Ell selected for Division-7 All-CIF Team

Cate School’s power-hitting catcher Zach Ell has been named to the Southern Section’s All-CIF Team, it was announced on Tuesday.

Ell smacked seven home runs in only 59 at-bats, and collected an astounding 48 RBI in 18 games. He finished with a .475 batting average and 28 runs scored, leading the Rams to the Division-7 CIF quarterfinals.

“Zach is just a hitting machine, who came to us from Saudi, with the rep that he hit a home run in the Little League World Series that was shown on ESPN,” said Cate head coach Ben Soto. “He has worked on his craft, and though has not made the ESPN highlight reel, he certainly has been a huge highlight for us here at Cate.”

Ell will be returning to Cate for his senior season next spring.

Firebaugh’s Anthony Rios was selected as the Division’s Most Valuable Player.
