Veronika Gulvin was dominant on the mound, and the Dos Pueblos offense knocked La Quinta?s starting pitcher out of the circle in the third inning en route to a 6-0 win in a CIF-SS Division 4 softball quarterfinal game on Thursday in the desert.

The Chargers (24-3-1) will host a semifinal game against Santa Monica on Tuesday. Santa Monica advanced with a 10-0 win over Paloma Valley.

Gulvin allowed two hits, no walks and struck out seven in a complete-game 88-pitch performance.

“Everything is running well for the Chargers,” DP coach Jon Uyesaka said, “beginning with excellent pitching and catching by Gulvin and Peterson.”

The Chargers gave her a two-run lead in the second inning and added two more runs in the third and two in the sixth.

In the second, Monica Salas tripled over the right fielder and scored on a double by Haley Peterson Lani Evans followed with a double, scoring pinch-runner Emi Parker.

Sam Sander and Chloe Madill led off with singles in the third and Gulvin doubled to score Sander. Alyssa Lewis singled to score Madill. In the sixth, Evans reached on an error and scored on a double by Jade Sinskul. Ady Willet drove in Sinskul with a pinch-hit single up the middle.

DP showed great balance on offense as six players drove in runs: Gulvin, Lewis, Peterson, Evans, Sinskul and Willett, and every batter recorded a hit.

Chloe Madill, Lewis and Sinskul each had two hits, and Peterson, Evans and Sinskul hit doubles. The Chargers had a total of 12 hits.

“It was an amazing game after a five-hour bus ride to Palm Desert and playing against a solid team in La Quinta,” said Uyesaka. “This was the only time they have been shutout.”

La Quinta finishes at 25-4.
