Hundreds compete at SB County’s Youth Track and Field Championships

The Santa Barbara Youth Track & Field Championships were held at SBCC’s La Playa Stadium in early May, bringing 385 athletes ranging from first-to-eighth graders competing in a variety of age-group events.

The meet showcases up and coming track and field stars in the area.

Club West’s Allie Jones earned victories in the 100m hurdles (16.61) and 100m dash (14.06). Jones anchored the Club West 7-8 grade girls 4×100 meter relay team achieving her third win of the day.

Ty Hernandez of Kellogg School also came away with three golds for the day. Hernandez took home the 5-6 grade boys 80m hurdles, 100m dash (13.84) and high jump.

Griffin Steele was a top performer in the 7-8 grade boys division. Steele took first in the 100m (12.26) dash and 400m run. He was also the lead off runner for the La Colina Jr. High 4x100m relay team that took home first.
