BB: Warriors win with Gordon’s big bat

Duncan Gordon demolished Fillmore pitching in Friday’s 7-1 Frontier League win for Carpinteria’s baseball team.

Gordon was 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and a solo home run. The senior finished with three RBI and two runs scored.

“Duncan Gordon is among our hardest workers and strongest players,” said Warriors head coach Pat Cooney. “He just keeps stringing together good at bats. Duncan is just one of the batters that is building confidence through repetition. Several Warriors came up with the needed offensive play at the right moment. Duncan sure did have a big day.”

Marcus Hutchinson earned the complete-game victory by stranding nine baserunners while scattering six hits over seven innings. Hutchinson put in a 2-for-4 day at the plate with a triple.

“Marcus was his best when his best was needed today,” Cooney said. “He was very patient but also effective in the zone. The defense is ready behind him and made some really steady plays.”

Tyler Esquivel and Santos Garcia were both 2-for-3 for the Flashes, who fall to 4-9 in league play.

Carpinteria, meanwhile, ups its record to 9-4 heading into the final week of the regular season. The Warriors are at first-place Malibu on Tuesday and at home on Thursday.
