BB: Mandrell scores Cordeiro in Bishop’s walk-off win

Scott Mandrell drove home RJ Cordeiro with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on Friday, sending Bishop Diego to a 5-4 walk-off win over visiting St. Bonaventure.

Cordeiro led off the inning with his third hit of the game, a single up the middle. Matt Shotwell advanced the runner on a sacrifice bunt and was safe on a throwing error that allowed Mandrell to make it all the way to third base.

After an out and an intentional walk to Aidan Williams, Mandrell rapped a single off the drawn-in first baseman’s glove to score Cordeiro.

John Salda was 2-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a triple. Shotwell finished 2-for-2 with an RBI.

The Seraphs and Cardinals ended up splitting their series after St. Bonaventure won 2-0 on Wednesday. Going into the final week of the regular season, the Cardinals are fighting for second place in the Tri-Valley League with a 5-3 record. St. Bonaventure is 3-5.

The Cardinals play at Grace Brethren on Tuesday and at home on Thursday.
