BB: Chargers shake off Cougars 5-4

Ventura’s frantic rally in the bottom of the seventh was finally put out by Dos Pueblos in a 5-4 Channel League victory for the first-place Chargers.

Dos Pueblos took a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh but allowed four runs to score before closing the door. Daniel Buratto came into the game to record the final two outs on a strikeout and a pop-up for a save.

Josh Tedeschi was credited for the victory for pitching five innings of shut out ball. Nolan Soto’s one hit was a two-run homer in the fourth inning. Three of DP’s 10 hits were for extra bases as Luke Coffey finished with a doubles and Dyland Rohde a triple. Gabe Speier was 3-for-4.

The result kept the Chargers one game in front of Santa Barbara, which defeated San Marcos 9-5. Dos Pueblos and Santa Barbara play the last two games of the regular season against each other on Tuesday and Thursday.
