Basketball player Keia Nobles was recognized as Santa Barbara City College’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon on Monday.

Nobles, a sophomore from Oxnard, was MVP of the Hancock Tournament this year for the women’s basketball team that reached the SoCal Regionals.

Nobles carries a 3.7 GPA and is preparing to earn a liberal arts degree at a 4-year school.

There to present Nobles were award sponsor Bob Huhn and SBCC Athletic Director Ryan Byrne.

“This is one of the best awards that we could possibly offer because it truly represents the full student-athlete,” ?Byrne said. “From my perspective, this is the highest honor that we have and I’m really proud of what Keia has accomplished.”

SBCC Sports Information Specialist Dave Loveton shared some words from women’s basketball coach Sandrine Krul.

“With her 3.73 GPA, she’s definitely a student in the classroom and because of that she’s a leader on the basketball court,” Krul said.

“I just want to thank the Round Table for having me here, my coaches for supporting me, my teammates for always being there when I need help, and my mom and dad,” Nobles said.
