Former Santa Barbara County High School Pitcher of the Year Dan Martony signed a professional contract with the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League in March.
The Grizzlies are an independent league team from Sauget, Illinois, which is just outside of St. Louis.
Martony graduated from Dos Pueblos High School in 2007 before playing at Oral Roberts University for three seasons. Martony won three Summit League championships and reached the NCAA Tournament three times during his college career. Martony finished his career at OR with a 9-1 record.
“Danny comes from a successful college program at Oral Roberts,” said manager Phil Warren on the Grizzlies website. “He put up good numbers there and we are excited to see how that translates to the professional level.”
Between Oral Roberts and Dos Pueblos, Martony spent two years playing in the Santa Barbara City College program.
Martony is one of six new pitchers signed by the Grizzlies in the offseason. They begin their 2013 season?on May 17?when they take on the Lake Erie Crushers.
