GLF: Collins takes Day 1 lead at Channel League Championships

Jonathan Collins will start the second day of the Channel League Championships with a two-stroke lead after a 3-under 69 on Monday at Soule Park in Ojai.

Collins leads teammate James Morton by two strokes while Dos Pueblos’ Grant Amerson and Santa Barbara’s Brandon Crane are three shots back. With Ryan Stoll in fifth place, the league-champion Dons hold four of the top five positions after the two-day tournament’s first round.

The top eight finishers on Tuesday will qualify for the CIF Individual Tournament. Eighteen competitors survived the cut and will continue to Tuesday’s round.

Collins is seeking his first Channel League title after finishing second last year to Ventura’s Gregory Robarge.
