Earth Day Festival features new Sports & Recreation area

This year’s Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival will host a variety of sports vendors and organizations that share in Earth Day’s common mission.

The festival is hosted by the Community Environmental Council at Alameda Park on Saturday and Sunday. Over 35,000 people are expected to attend.

EarthDay-ShoesGreen Sneakers?– Their goal is to help other organizations meet their financial needs in the form of a simple, though very effective and meaningful, fund raising program that makes used sneakers available as affordable footwear for those in need around the world, helps create and sustain jobs in various regions across the globe, and lessens environmental impact through reuse.

Santa Barbara Rock Gym ? There will be a portable rock wall. Also, the team at SB Rock Gym will be organizing a community clean up at Lizard’s Mouth, a popular recreational area for rock climbers.

Arbor Collective?– Arbor is a growing collective of artists, designers, and friends that snowboard, skateboard, and surf. They ?are focused on finding solutions for a more sustainable future through a blend of art, technology, and eco-materials; which allows them to deliver the most successful line of snowboards, skateboards, and apparel possible.?They will have a tent set up so people can see and touch their snowboards, skateboards, etc., as well as selling some of their apparel.

Coalition for Sustainable Transportation-?COAST will be at Santa Barbara’s Earth Day distributing custom fitting low-cost bike helmets. They will have helmets for mom, dad, and all of the kids!

Surf Happens Foundation?– The mission of the Surf Happens Foundation is to utilize expertise in ocean knowledge to connect those in need – locally and abroad – directly with the healing powers of the ocean while promoting environmental awareness and sustainability. Their focus is on sharing environmental awareness on keeping our oceans clean!

Nature Track Foundation-Specially trained naturalists who enjoy sharing their knowledge and love of the outdoors with students lead NatureTrack adventures. They provide outdoor field trips for Central Coast school-aged children where curriculum is aligned with grade-appropriate state mandated standards. Direct communication with teachers ensures that each field trip supplements the in-classroom units of study.

Santa Barbara Mountain Bike Trail Volunteers ? For over two decades SBMTV volunteers have provided sustainable trail maintenance, user education, and stewardship for the Santa Barbara area trails. The club holds monthly trail work events, Sunday trail rides, and cooperative trail events like State Trails Day.

South Coast Karate/Goleta Valley Community Center-South Coast Karate teaches both kids and adults to explore their full potential with their martial arts classes. They develop mental focus, physical conditioning, and self-defense skills in a safe environment that promotes mutual respect and encourages each individual to do their best.

Dopper US & Canada-Dopper bottles are the most beautifully designed reusable water bottles. 10% of all proceeds supports clean water access in Nepal.

Santa Ynez Chumash Environmental Office ?SYCEO works with the Tribal government, community members, and the staff of the Chumash Casino Resort to maximize efficient energy use, efficient water use, reduce waste and improve both the natural and built environment. The SYCEO hosts events including Chumash Earth Day (with community clean-up of a local beach), Zanja De Cota Creek clean-up, and the Chumash Environmental Fair.
